During election season, candidates put on their best behavior. They watch their step, choose their words wisely…at least most of them do…and they do their best to be a positive influence on us. They hope we will buy into their platform as they try their best to convince us that they are the solution for all our ills.
Candidates can be quite sincere. But they can also be hypocritical and phony. How do we know the difference? We don’t…unless we do our ‘due diligence’ and check the candidate’s background, history, private life and past voting records. I get a bit dismayed when I see voters take candidates at face value. I’ve seen voters view thieves as honest, adulterers as faithful, and heathens as men and women of faith. It’s clear, we’ve got to do better. There’s a lot more to a person than what he says. There’s what he does. There’s who he is. There’s where he’s been. And that’s just for starters.
