Blockbuster movies help us remember some of the details of the Bible. One such movie, Hollywood’s ‘The Ten Commandments’, is forever stuck in the memory of those who were of movie-going age in 1956, and those who watch late night movies today, especially around the holidays of Christmas and Easter. Hollywood knows how to make a blockbuster out of an Old Testament story. The three-hour film of the Hebrews’ exodus from Egyptian slavery by the hand of Moses has an intermission so long, you can make a sandwich and eat it before the second half resumes.

But when Hollywood tells a biblical story, they only include the ‘ticket-selling stuff’. They leave out God’s intended spiritual lessons. And I’m glad they do, because I wouldn’t want Hollywood interpreting God’s message for me.
