"Revelation. The name of this book of the Bible is the English form of the Latin equivalent of the original Greek. But all we need to know is that it means “disclosure”. The book of Revelation is God’s disclosure of things to come. It is God’s revelation as revealed to John while he was incarcerated on the Isle of Patmos.
The Apostle John was exiled to the island during the reign of the Roman Emperor Domitian in the late 1st century A.D. as punishment. What was his crime? He was a Christian. John was considered a political and religious dissident. John’s prophetic activity…his visions and apocalyptic teachings…were viewed by the imperial authority as subversive. So, the Emperor thought he could put a stop to the spread of Christianity by locking John away on a remote island.
Did John’s punishment work? No! Because all things work together for GOOD when God is in the plan. Two millenniums later..."
