"There are many surprising sayings in the book of Hosea. This one in particular has a little humor in it, even though it is a severe scolding. But let’s face it. There is nothing conventional in the style of the Biblical writers. When they have anything practical to say, they don’t try to wrap it up in fancy language. We preachers should take a cue from them and stop trying to sugarcoat the gospel. Just put it out there, like Christ who told John seven times on the Isle of Patmos…“He that hath an ear, let him hear…” (Revelation 2:7,11,17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22).
