The words “stand your ground” have taken on a new meaning in many states that have a “Stand Your Ground Law”. That phrase…stand your ground…has been turned into a euphemism with a totally different meaning. The “Stand your Ground” law says that a person can use lethal force to protect himself, without any duty to retreat. And unfortunately, it has become a license to kill.

• Ask the family of Markeis McGlockton, the unarmed 28 year old who was shot and killed over a parking space.
• Ask the mother of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 16 year old who was shot and killed for trying to protect himself from a “wanna-be” cop who Trayvon thought was stalking him.
• Ask Brennan Walker, a lost Michigan 14 year old who missed his school bus and was shot at, for ringing a doorbell to ask for directions to his new school.

Today’s sermonic message is not about a license to kill or to bear arms. It is about having the stamina to hold fast and wait for God to fight your battles.
