"Imagine a nation that mocks the church, silences the gospel, and thrives on cruelty. That was Nineveh—once humbled by Jonah’s preaching, but soon hardened again by pride and violence. Though they repented for a moment, they relapsed into apostasy. So God sent Nahum, not with a warning, but with a verdict.
And the spirit of Nineveh is still alive today. Hatred toward God’s people festers across generations and borders. Consider Israel—God’s chosen nation—surrounded by hostility, mocked by many, and targeted with cruelty. The oppression is visible. The injustice is real. But the Lord is not blind. He is slow to anger, yes—but “He is great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked” (Nahum 1:3).
Please don’t tune me out today, because this is not a political treatise on the war between Israel and Hamas, or an attempt to justify the obliteration of the Gaza strip. Quite the contrary, Like the apostle Paul, “my heart’s desire and prayer for Israel is that they might be saved” (Romans 10:1), as well as the people of Gaza who do not know the Lord.
